This summer, contracts were signed for the design and construction of the new wing of the Santa Maria della Misericordia hospital in Udine, Italy. The new wing is an extension to the existing hospital building and will provide up to 56,000 square meters of additional space in a project worth 66 million euros.
The new seven storey wing will accommodate 243 ordinary beds, 48 intensive care beds, 44 day hospital beds, 30 temporary observation beds, 9 operating theatres, an emergency room, offices, surgeries and a conference room.
The public tender was awarded to the joint venture consisting of the following leading Italian contracting companies: Grandi Lavori Fincosit s.p.a., Milani Giovanni s.p.a. and Panzeri s.p.a.
During the tender phase, Deerns proposed a list of innovative improvements to the baseline project with regard to energy efficiency and the use of renewable sources, enabling the team to achieve the maximum score.
Along with the rest of the design team (Studio Amati, MAIN Management & Ingegneria and Thema), Deerns is responsible for the entire design up to the preparatory drawings for the construction phase. In particular, Deerns will use BIM technology to develop the MEP design.
The design phase will be completed by the second quarter of 2017, with construction work being completed in 2020.20 September 2016
